The Department of Health (the department) is seeking talented and experienced executives to join its senior leadership team to help ensure that we respond to current and emerging challenges to the health of Australians, our health and aged care system, and the government’s objectives in relation to sport. We work as a team to develop and implement coherent, connected and evidence-based responses.
As an Assistant Secretary you will support the Secretary and executive team in the leadership and direction setting of the department. Successful candidates will be highly-motivated leaders with outstanding program management and organisational change experience and strategic vision.
Several opportunities exist for SES Band 1 positions within the Information Technology Division. You will be responsible for contributing to a range of complex IT and program management issues, providing insights and strategic direction to enhance IT capabilities to promote creativity and innovation to meet the needs of the department.
You will provide strategic advice to transform the department's platforms and processes, experimenting with new and responsive solutions and acting as a trusted technology advisor. In addition, you will also develop financial sustainability of IT solutions and services to ensure the delivery is valuable and supports the whole-of-government workflows and processes and ensuring the customer is at the centre of everything we do. Influencing and developing strategic engagements with key stakeholders to create synergies across the Department, consistently delivering and adapting to emerging priorities.
To be a strong contender for these important and challenging roles you will need to be forward thinking, self-motivated, resilient and adept at building relationships in a large, complex and fast-paced environment. You will be able to contribute to and communicate the strategic direction of the department. Your strong leadership credentials and ability to engender trust and respect will be complemented by sound judgement, a strong focus on results and the ability to resolve complex issues in a public sector context, including by winning support, marshalling resources and leveraging relationships. With extensive management experience at an executive level you will be experienced in providing strategic leadership and direction, and building the capability of your team and the department more broadly.
Appropriate tertiary qualifications will be well regarded.

- Satisfactory completion of an Australian Federal Police criminal history check, and where relevant a Working with Children and Vulnerable People Check.

- Obtaining and maintaining a security clearance at the required level (where required).
For this role applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.
