Duties

Executive Assistants (EA’s) are part of the executive support network. They provide high level support to executive’s across the Department and the Australian Border Force. EA’s are responsible for the delivery of timely, efficient and effective administration, coordination and advice. An EA may work as part of a small, high performing team within a complex and fast-paced environment. This is a position of trust that requires emotional intelligence, sound judgement and high levels of personal integrity, sensitivity, confidentiality and discretion.

The APS5 EA is responsible for organising their own, the executive’s and potentially others workflow, making decisions within defined parameters and setting new precedents based on sound subject matter knowledge and professional judgement. They exercise a high degree of autonomy and accountability as part of the role.

We are looking for experienced EA's who possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills with an emphasis on working collaboratively across the Department to achieve the best outcomes. You will work with a solutions focus, using knowledge, evaluation skills, creative thinking and sound judgement to manage the various types of issues/situations that may arise.

The APS5 EA will be highly motivated, demonstrate initiative and be able to manage multiple deadlines under pressure.

Eligibility

To be eligible to work with the Department of Home Affairs you must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Fulfil the Department’s minimum requirements by satisfactorily answering all screening questions during the application process
  • Obtain and maintain the required AGSVA clearance
  • Obtain and maintain a current Employment Suitability Clearance
  • Undergo a health assessment (where applicable).

Mandatory (and where applicable, role specific) screening questions are used within the application to ensure all successful applicants meet these minimum requirements of the Department.
