The Indigenous Apprenticeships Program (IAP) is an Australian Government program that provides apprenticeship opportunities to Indigenous Australians in the Australian Public Service. The IAP is an exciting opportunity for people who are interested in beginning a career in the Australian Public Service and wanting to learn new skills, as well as gaining a formal qualification and valuable workplace experience.

Study and Work:
As part of the IAP, apprentices work full-time in a participating Australian Government agency to complete a nationally recognised certificate IV or diploma qualification in Government.

Positions are available in a range of locations across all states and territories. Applicants will have the ability to apply for multiple locations in the one application.

• be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Australian decent
• be an Australian citizen

Applicants will undergo a pre-employment screening process. This process involves a police history check, a referee check and where relevant a working with children and vulnerable people check and a health clearance. Applicants must also be willing and eligible to undergo and maintain an Australian government security clearance to the appropriate level if applicable to the position they are offered.

Applicants should be aware that IAP participants may be required to undergo ongoing suitability assessment as part of their employment.


A merit pool will be generated through this recruitment and selection process. Candidates' personal information may be accessed, and offers of employment may be made by other Australian Government agencies. Exact salary varies by agency.
