Regional Presence Events
We are pleased to announce Regional Presence Events to be held in Perth, Gosford and Albury in May and June 2019.
The all-day Regional Presence Events are designed as a career development opportunity, and to build a regional network for local Australian Public Service (APS) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees to increase the level of support available in these areas. Therefore these events are for staff in those locations only.
The ATO is overseeing this Series of Regional Presence Events with the assistance of Marumali Consultations. The events will be held:
- Tuesday 14th May at the Double Tree Hilton hotel, 100 James Street, Northbridge, Perth WA
- Thursday 23th May at the Central Coast Leagues Club, Dane Drive, Gosford NSW
- Thursday 20th June at the Mantra Hotel, 524 Smollett Street, Albury NSW
Please be aware, this is an invitation only event for staff in each location and there are limited places available. If you are interested and able to attend please RSVP to the ATO via return email to WorkplaceDiversitymailbox. An agenda and formal invite will be provided to interested staff prior to the event. Your nominal agency will also like to know of your interest and may seek this information from you too.
The Regional Presence approach was progressed following an Indigenous Champions Network (ICN) meeting, where it was decided to focus on strategies to build a regional presence for local Australian Public Service Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees and to increase the level of support available to these employees in regional areas. Therefore the target audience for this event is local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff. If you are located in other regions, you may be interested in other Regional Presence events or the Indigenous Employee Yarns events.
The ATO considers the event a paid work event. However staff from outside agencies are encouraged to confirm with their managers their agencies requirements for the event. Whilst staff are also required to seek approval from their managers to attend the event, managers are kindly encouraged to release their staff as the event directly supports career development and employee retention for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
To attend the Perth event, please RSVP to the ATO via return email to WorkplaceDiversitymailbox by COB Monday 6th May 2019.
To attend the Gosford please RSVP to the ATO via return email to WorkplaceDiversitymailbox by COB Monday 14th May 2019.
To attend the Albury event please RSVP to the ATO via return email to WorkplaceDiversitymailbox by COB Monday 3rd June 2019.
All enquiries about the Regional Presence events can be directed to WorkplaceDiversitymailbox.
Indigenous Employee Yarns
The Indigenous Employee Yarns networking events bring Indigenous Australian Government employees in the Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney regions together.
Coordinated by the Australian Public Service Commission twice a year, these free half-day events bring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees together to network, prompt thought-provoking discussion and present the opportunity to hear from speakers across the public sector.
The next Yarns events will be held in June 2019. This series will focus on how to market yourself and help you to understand what selection panels are looking for. You will workshop evolving recruitment practices and learn tips on how to:
- draft a one page pitch
- make your CV stand out from the crowd
- nail your next interview
