Department of the Environment and Energy

We are a regulator, a policy advisor, a provider of science and information and a manager of Government programs and investments. The legislative, program and policy responsibilities we fulfil every year are in areas as diverse as environmental watering and energy efficiency, the protection of threatened species and ecological communities, Antarctic science and improving air quality.

Our work fulfils the Government’s international commitments under global energy and environmental treaties and agreements and delivers on the Government’s domestic commitments in the Environment and Energy Portfolio.

We recognise that the participation of Indigenous people and communities should be central to program design and delivery. We work to make our programs more accessible to Indigenous people and more responsive to the diversity of urban, regional and remote needs.
